Help with quotation marks

Post by jockey »

Hello, I'm making a greetings card with a quote (from Charlie Brown). I hope someone won't mind checking the grammar for me to see if it's acceptable before I print it off. I thought I'd better get it checked since it's a card aimed at grammar perfectionists. Here it is, thank you for any help.

Sometimes I lay awake
at night and ask myself,
“is it all worth it?”

Then a voice says, “who
are you talking to?”

Then another voice says
“you mean, ’to whom are
you talking?’”

No wonder I lay awake
at night!

Just watch lay/lie and capitalisation.
Lay/lie is a very common error. Even in AmE the correct word in your case is "lie":
