Looking for a term to describe a false statement

Post by bugeyed »

Hello,
I am looking for a term that describes the false statement that precedes a theory or statement that is based on this false premise. That statement that is the basis for the rest of the conversation. Is there a term for that statement? That point where everything to follow is invalidated because it is based on the false premise.
Thanks,
Kev

Maybe I misunderstood but it sounds as though the term you are looking for is actually "false premise".
