Proper form of "Started playing the video"

So I have a sentence like "the minute I started playing the video - it started to rain outside", but I feel like it can be structured better.
Can I say "enabled the video"? Or just "started the video"?

The minute I switched on the video it started raining outside.

switched on or turned on
started raining is more idiomatic
