Suitable musicals

Unread post by alphakid »

Hi everyone,

I'm new to this website and hoping to get some suggestions for suitable musicals for a post-beginner class. My students range from 19-60 with the average being around the 35 mark. I'd love to show them something from Disney but I don't know that it will have the same appeal for them as it does for individuals like myself who have grown up on them.

Aladdin would be great but considering Robin Williams' quick fire dialogue throughout, it may be a bit too much to ask of them. I'm thinking maybe Moulin Rouge or something to that extent? Does anyone know it well enough to comment on whether it would be suitable? Most of my students have Arabic backgrounds so I will need to confirm what the boundaries are with content too, I guess. Though, they are adults so while I will avoid anything sexually explicit, a small amount of drinking, profanity, etc is to be expected. It is a part of our culture and I can justify that exposure as 'authentic' at the end of the day.
