Literature in Language Teaching
What do you think of using literature in language education especially in teaching English as a second language? Please give your opinion. Thanks.

Re: Literature in Language Teaching
HI kennvungan,
I'm currently in master's program in TESOL, and having a background in linguistics and an appreciation for literature, I really hope that I'll be able to use literature, children's or otherwise, when teaching in the future. I'm learning that the best way to teach children a language requires encouraging them to be a part of the culture where the language is spoken. So I think it is appropriate to use relatable literature with ELL, provided that they are given the appropriate vocabulary and background support. I think this is a better approach than rote grammar drills, or contrived texts like the kinds that come in textbooks to teach certain vocabulary terms that are so watered down. Do you have specific literature in mind? For what age group?
All the Best!
