I'm putting together a short article on the hiring process at ESL EFL schools -- something to prepare job seekers and a little more targeted than the usual information found at career sites like Monster. I'm still in my first job, having received my certificate about 1 year ago. I work in a private language school in Dublin.
They asked me to talk about my training course, my favourite parts of the course, what I found difficult. I was asked about my strengths and weaknesses in the classroom and then I was asked to briefly describe a lesson I had designed.
Other places asked me grammar questions (past simple v. present perfect, etc.) and International House gave a 2 hour interview where I was given a grammar point and some material and asked to design a 60 minute lesson.
I blanketed the city before the start of the summer season and had quite a few interviews, so the details are a bit fuzzy. Mostly the interviews seemed to be designed to determine if I actually enjoyed teaching or was just looking for some "easy money." And also to see if the DOS liked me.
