interview questions

Unread post by Heads Up Eng »

I'm putting together a short article on the hiring process at ESL EFL schools -- something to prepare job seekers and a little more targeted than the usual information found at career sites like Monster. Other articles I've written for Heads Up English can be found at: Articles | Heads Up English | ESL EFL.

So here's my question to the forums: What kind of questions were you asked during your job interview(s)?

Post any questions here, please.

Thank you!

I'm still in my first job, having received my certificate about 1 year ago. I work in a private language school in Dublin.

They asked me to talk about my training course, my favourite parts of the course, what I found difficult. I was asked about my strengths and weaknesses in the classroom and then I was asked to briefly describe a lesson I had designed.

Other places asked me grammar questions (past simple v. present perfect, etc.) and International House gave a 2 hour interview where I was given a grammar point and some material and asked to design a 60 minute lesson.

I blanketed the city before the start of the summer season and had quite a few interviews, so the details are a bit fuzzy. Mostly the interviews seemed to be designed to determine if I actually enjoyed teaching or was just looking for some "easy money." And also to see if the DOS liked me.

Good luck with the article!

Thank you, Ben. That's helpful.

I've put together an article and some questions, which can be found here:

If anyone has additional questions to add to the list, as well as ideas, let me know.
